Building on the work of CASEL, Teaching with a Social, Emotional, and Cultural Lens (Markowitz and Bouffard, 2020) provides a roadmap for K-12 classroom teachers and university teacher educators to address issues of equity by integrating social-emotional learning and culturally responsive teaching in support of academic achievement and the well-being of students and educators .
Nancy Lourié Markowitz, Ph.D. is Founder and Executive Director of the Center for Reaching & Teaching the Whole Child (CRTWC.org) and Professor Emerita at San José State University. She has also worked as an urban elementary school teacher in Los Angeles and as a K-8 school administrator.
Heidi Stevenson, Ph.D., has taught preschool, elementary school, and adult migrant education students in low-income schools in the San Francisco Bay area. She is currently an Associate Professor of Education at University of the Pacific and Assistant Director of CRTWC.
